It was an ordinary day but special to me because my son will treat me for lunch at SM Mall of Asia. Coming from their office in Greenhills for an office errand, Pao fetched me in my workplace by noontime. We were both craving ramen and so we looked for a Japanese restaurant from the North to South Wing of SM Moa. After a lot of walking, finally, we stumbled at Yayoi Japanese Teishoku Restaurant or simply, YAYOI.
It’s my birthday today! Despite the pandemic, the fear, and the anxiety behind this dreaded Covid-19 virus, my hubby and I braved the opportunity to once again, satisfy our cravings for ramen. We were told that ramen at Ippudo is one of the best in the metro so we decided to try it. Well, let’s find out if this is true.
My hubby fetched me in the office by lunchtime. I was half day today from work. We will initially celebrate my birthday as a couple at SM Mall of Asia.
A bit of trivia
Shigemi Kawahara, the internationally renowned Ramen King founded Ippudo in 1985 in Hakata, Japan’s ramen capital. As of this time, there are about 80 stores in Japan and have branches in Sydney and New York and other Asian countries such as Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, China, and Malaysia.
Ippudo’s Motto: “To continuously innovate to remain true”
We ordered two different ramen so we can taste it both.
Akamaru Shinaji (Php430.00) – this is their best seller and since this is their special ramen I was too excited to try this. This has original tonkatsu broth with thin noodles, a thin pork belly, black fungus (kikurage), spring onions, and seaweeds.
This was served hot in a big bowl. I knew then, this will satiate my hungry and excited tummy. This had a hint of spicy flavor that mixes well with the broth. It was not so salty and not so oily. The noodles were so thin and the pork was tender. The taste was so flavorful that I did not add any sauce to make it better.
Shiromaru Motoaji (Php415.)- classic Hakata-style ramen with tonkatsu broth, thin noodles, bean sprouts, pork loin, spring onions, and black fungus (kikurage). My husband chose this ramen because of the spicy miso and the fragrant oil. It was creamy and flavorful too. Its level of spiciness was just right for my taste bud.
Pork Bun (Box of 3-Php335.00) – is tagged as an all-time favorite. This bun has a juicy braised pork belly and Ippudo’s original sauce. It was not so salty and is flavorful too. A perfect match to ramen.
There was no extravagant Japanese fashion inside the restaurant. Instead, they have a minimalist design that is peaceful and comfortable to the eyes. What made it Japanese were the bamboo chandelier lights, half-wooden wall, wooden ceilings, wooden tables, the cushioned black, white and red chairs, and the collection of Ochawan or the rice bowls inside a glass frame.
Because of the current situation, the table had an acrylic partition. Guests are not allowed to sit beside each other. X-pattern is followed for a four-seater table.
They have fast and good service. Since it was lunchtime and they have many customers, we made a pre-order of our desired food so we will not wait long when we get inside.
These bowls of ramen are quite pricy. If you are on a special celebration with your loved ones or friends, I highly recommend Ippudo. Treat yourself to an extraordinary taste of ramen and have that shatter of pleasure in your mouth.
With its highest quality of soup and ingredients, Ippudo’s ramen is one of the best. It brings out the taste of authentic ramen. Together with Watami and Kimono Ken, Ippudo’s is simply irresistible! Ramen lovers like us would surely love it too. And we will definitely try it again with the whole family.

And since he is now working, he will pay for the bill. Yehey! This is a no-diet dinner and everyone is expected to give in to this unusual craving.
Saying good-bye to our loved ones in California and Nevada made me feel sad and emotional. I guess, we all have these emotions for a reason. Our two-week vacation in these two beautiful states went by quickly. Surely, I will gonna miss a lot of things if we get back home. And to cap off our last but memorable night in California where we stayed longer, my brother-in-law Noel, invited us for fresh boiling seafood treat in a Chinese restaurant called Asian n’ Cajun 2 Boiling Seafood Restaurant.
A vacation to the United States would not be complete without tasting the varieties of apples that the country is known for. One freezing morning, my sister invited me to buy fresh fruits and muffins in Sprouts Farmers Market. Every time we will go for a stroll or grocery shopping, I’m so elated to get out of the house to savor the winter breeze and to see every corner of America! And I was glad Gie did not forget about my mounting desire to eat apples in green, red, and yellow.
Las Vegas isn’t all about the glitz and glamour, the vibrant city lights, swanky casinos and hotels, and the like. It also offers an incredible dining experience. Our generous hosts for our vacation in the city, my niece Miko and husband Derick had toured us to exciting places, and at the same time, they brought us to some of its unique restaurant which includes a boiling seafood restaurant, The Boiling Crab.
My hubby and I craved for ramen after we bought grocery goodies in Hypermarket in SM Mall of Asia. However, as we walked on the Ground Floor just outside Hypermarket, my eyes suddenly beamed with excitement upon seeing this Thai Restaurant called Soi. This is in time with my upcoming trip to Thailand this January. I tried Thai food in Singapore but missed out on the famous Pad Thai. I will try this in Soi and see why travelers visiting Thailand are craving to taste this dish.
As I turned 46, we diverted the usual family beach getaway by being a kid again at Gingerbread House in Alfonso, Cavite. But my brother wanted to swim and so I recommended Masasa Beach in Tingloy Island, Batangas. Just last summer of this year, there has been much bustle about this beach and I was curious to find out for myself what this raving is all about.
My hubby and I are regular Starbucks Coffee customers who would go there to while away time. Lately, we ventured out for something new. This time we tried the refreshing alternative to coffee which is the “milk teas”. After my follow-up check with my OB-Gyne, my hubby enjoined the whole family to taste the milk teas of Bon AppeTEA!
It’s Father’s Day today and it’s time to celebrate this special occasion with the whole family who loves to venture on unique food and restaurant. After attending Sunday church services, we scoured the District Mall where to eat and we stumbled at Seoul Garden Hot Pot.
