Pattaya, Thailand Tour: Day 3

Once known as a small fishing village, Pattaya is now a sparkling coastal city dotted with wonderful tourist attractions and a myriad of activities to deal with. This is our third day in Thailand and we had great fun to take home another precious memory as we visit another spectacular sight, immerse in the culture of the city, meet new friends and enjoy the sound and smell of this present moment.

There is no tour package offered by Klook in Pattaya based on our itinerary. As such, we contacted again Mr. P’Shom, a local with a van for hire we rented for our Ayutthaya tour yesterday. We are already comfortable with him who is so jolly and fun to be with. Though he was not fluent in English, we can communicate with each other well. Jhen and I are excited for another one-whole day visit to this exciting city.

These are the places we visited on this tour:

Buddha Mountain Pattaya

One of the most visited tourist attractions in Pattaya is the Buddha Mountain or commonly called Khao Chi Chan. Its main draw is the carving of the giant Golden Buddha onto the face of the mountain. It stands 109 meters tall and with a width of 70 meters. The image was designed using computer software and was drawn to the mountain using a laser. When it was done, gold was used to fill in the structure.

We took a leisure walk on a clean path in getting to the base of the mountain. From there we were awed to see the gigantic carving. It was so impressive. Then we strolled around. The premise had a charming and tranquil park, pond with lovely flowers and lotus, a garden, and open pavilions. It has also small stores selling cold refreshments and food.

The whole area of the Buddha Mountain was shrouded with a tranquility that is perfect for the devotees praying and giving offerings to the shrines inside the temple. There are benches for resting and the clean grasses cordially invite everyone for a happy picnic.

Silverlake Vineyard

Located South East of Pattaya is a large vineyard called Silverlake Vineyard. It was established in 2002. They offer tour packages for those who would want to see the actual wine process and will receive a bottle of juice or two glasses of wine. This tour includes a visit to the Windmill, Flower Garden, the Movie House, greenhouses, winery, and the grape juice plant. An electric tram is used and it has no set time.

It will take almost an hour (or more) for a tour in the Silverlake Vineyard. Since we will visit other places in Pattaya, we just explore the Villaggio. It has Italian style buildings, a fountain, classic statues, a shop, a restaurant, and a café. It was so nice to stroll around as there was beauty all around from the view of the adjacent lake, the vineyard, and the Windmill from afar. It was an excellent backdrop for photo taking.

With its serene and romantic ambiance, it’s nice to stay awhile in the Vineyard, sip coffee in the café or have lunch in the restaurant while immersing in the view. For those who want to stay overnight and bask in its serene atmosphere, there are cottages in The Movie House.

NongNooch Tropical Garden

NongNooch Tropical Garden is one of the top ten most beautiful gardens in the world and one of the top tourist attractions in Pattaya. The 600-acre botanical garden, the largest in South East Asia was originally set as a fruit plantation and later used for the conservation of certain species of plants and flowers. In 1980 it was opened for the public.

It has theme gardens: the Car Garden I & II, Dinosaur Valley, Beautiful Garden, NongNooch Cactus Garden and, Animal Kingdom. Thai cultural show and elephant show are added to its attraction. It has a swimming pool, spa center, coffee house, and a mini-mart.

getting ready for the tour in the theme gardens

Visiting NongNoock Tropical Garden is the most anticipated part of our Pattaya tour. The garden was so huge, there’s a lot to see and do so we have alloted ample time to explore it. We did not board the bus (with a certain fee) in getting inside but used the 1.1-km walkway to enjoy more of the wonderful sights.

We saw massive amazing animal and insect sculptures, dinosaurs, and unique tropical flowers and plants. But what really caught my fancy are the life-size dinosaurs and the plant species; the lovely orchids, ferns, bonsai, succulents, cactuses, and the hanging plants that have shapes of heart, sphere, and star apple.

It was so hot when we explored the Dinosaur Valley, but we did not mind the scorching heat because we were feasting on various Dinosaurs that looks alive and ready to eat us! Haha!

Nongnooch Tropical Garden is a must-visit in Pattaya so never skip this in your itinerary. Time is not enough to explore and savor all its attractions. We even skipped visiting the Car Garden to give way to our next destination.

Big Buddha

Located between South Pattaya and Jomtien is the gigantic 18-meter tall Golden Big Buddha which was built in 1977. It is on top of Pratumnak Hill and is the highlight of Wat Phra Yai temple. In getting to the main temple, one has to drive the road to the top. A striking long staircase with golden dragon handrails emitting seven-headed Naga snakes will lead you to the temple.
going up

these seven-headed snakes emitted from Golden dragons will first greet you when you go up to see the Big Buddha

Once you reach the temple ground, you will see seven smaller golden Buddha images and the pavilion. From there, you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the city and the Pattaya bay area. As of our visit, the Big Buddha was under renovation so we were not able to see its whole structure. Anyway, it was worth the visit.

Pattaya Beach

Pattaya is known to have beautiful beaches so we included this in our itinerary. We were glad that Mr. P’Shom brought us to Pattaya Beach as per our request. In getting there, we were delighted to see a line of palm trees near the shore. There was no busy crowd when we got to the beach. It was late afternoon and it was so nice to just laze around, walked in the sand, and watched the calm water and the nearing sunset.

Pattaya Beach has exciting sports activities to indulge in like jet skis, parasails, and speedboats. It was good to end the day on the beach for it gives a defined relaxation after a tour on a hot and sunny day.

Good-bye Pattaya

That ended our Pattaya tour. Again, we were so thankful for a well-spent visit to another city in Thailand. Aside from seeing its beautiful tourist attractions and knowing deeply about their culture, the best experience I got in getting to Pattaya is to meet new people, speak their mother tongue and share valuable moments with new friends and travel buddies.

Mr. P’Shom gave us an option which of these two Nongnooch Tropical Garden and Sanctuary of Truth shall we give priority in visiting Pattaya as both will eat an ample time exploring the city. We chose the former to spice up our travel as we want to see different tropical plants. On our next visit to Pattaya, surely we will visit next the Sanctuary of Truth.

We are so thankful to these guys, Mr. P'Shom our service guy and Julie for touring us in Thailand
