Stormy lunch at Nathaniel’s Bakeshop, Subic Bay Freeport Zone

Storm signal number 3 prompted us to vacate Potipot Island the other night. We stayed in Harvest Beach Resort and there we spent the windy night peacefully. When morning came, I hailed the curtain and saw the strong buffeting of waves brought by heavy rain and a strong gust of winds.

We had a fast breakfast in the visitor’s lounge because the rain got even stronger. We were in a convoy when we left Harvest Beach Resort. But my brother and his family will visit a family friend in Palauig so we parted ways when we reached their destination.

breezy morning… Potipot Island was shaded by heavy rain

There’s nothing to worry along the way because the wind was not that strong anymore and the road wasn’t in zero visibility range. We opted to settle for lunch in Subic since the next restaurant is several kilometers away. My hubby chose Nathaniel’s Bakeshop which was conveniently located along Dewey Avenue.

Success Story

Nathaniel’s Bakeshop started by selling homemade siopao and siomai in a family garage. Now, Nathaniel’s is not only a pasalubong store that originated in San Fernando, Pampanga but is now a full-blown restaurant that offers affordable Filipino food like “kakanin”, dimsum, cakes, pastries, and other meryenda must-try delicacies.

see their big servings?

The restaurant was clean and big. Since there was a storm, there were only a few guests who came to eat this day. We were the first group I guess to dine in for lunch. We were told that their best-sellers are Pansit Guisado and Dinuguan but since it was cold, we ordered hot soups.

1)  Chicken Mami (P120) – It was a large serving. The chicken was tender and the soup was subtle and hot. I didn’t add any condiments anymore because it was just right for my taste.

2)  Lomi (P120) – with its sticky sauce packed with siomai and vegetables, it was so good. My hubby ordered one plate of rice thinking Lomi wasn’t enough for his lunch. But his tummy got so full that he can’t afford to finish one big bowl. Ian and Nanay ordered Lomi too.

3)  Bangus Sisig (P145) – with its big serving, my mother shared it with everyone. It has no egg, but with tomato sauce mixed with calamansi. Taste isn’t that exceptional but it was just fine especially if you want to skip the meat.

4) Longsilog (P90) – served with two sweet longganisa, garlic rice, and sunny side-up egg. Pao and Shen chose this breakfast meal where Pao added Lomi to sustain his hungry tummy.

With generous serving and meaty goodness, everything was great. But since we had our fill (heavy tummies OMG!) we can no longer eat for dessert. On our next visit, we will try their best-seller Buko Pandan Salad.

Lesson learned:  It’s best to drop by Nathaniel’s on an empty stomach to indulge your appetite with the main dish as well as the dessert delight.

Amidst the storm, guests were slowly pouring in.
