Aniao Islets and Baler Lighthouse: Part 4 Baler Trip

I got out of bed so early to capture the sunrise, but as I looked at the sky, the imminent downpour was on its way. It was an overcast morning and to my dismay, I still have no sunrise photo of Baler for our second day. But it did not dampen my excitement. Rain or shine, this day is a wonderful day to be happy with our Baler Adventure.

Since there’s no restaurant here in AMCO Diguisit Lodge and Resort and we are saving time not to go to town proper anymore for our breakfast, we cooked noodles and boiled water for our coffee and milo drinks courtesy of Froi’s camping utensils. Our morning fuel was settled with bread with cheese filling and the signature Baler suman.

The next destination in our Baler trip is the Aniao Islets, still part of Sitio Diguisit, Barangay Zabali. It’s good that light rain had simply passed and the sun came out shining brightly. From the resort, travel time took us ten minutes only. We parked our van under a tree and paid P10/per head for the entrance fee. Then we walked excitedly into the shore with corals, rocks, and clear water. From there, the Aniao Islets, the two imposing small islands could be seen and looked like, they were inviting us to go there, climb and dive into the ocean.

But there’s no boat in the vicinity so what we did, we looked for a perfect spot to wade into the water. When we are about to explore farther, the caretaker pointed the Baler Lighthouse up a nearby hill. Funny, no one knows that there was a lighthouse there, and suddenly, the thought of climbing the hill thrilled everyone.

We were told it was only a ten-minute trek from the jump-off point. Another funny moment, we were given three little smiling kids named Ronilo, Michael and Mondragon as our trek guides. By looking at them, we assumed, the trek was easy and light only.

Soon we found out, the hill was stiff with slippery stones and rocks. Only Froi, a certified mountaineer had no hard time reaching the lighthouse together with our two little buddies Shen Shen and Abu. And the rest of us, me, my hubby, Pao, and Marie could not make it on top, afraid that we might slide straight into the shoreline. So what we did, we just enjoyed our candid photo ops and went back to the resort to swim.

We enjoyed the remaining hours as we chilled out on the beach then into the swimming pool. We basked from the sun till 11:00 am.

And so we bid good-bye to our wonderful stay at the resort, to the iconic rock formations of Baler and the wonderful experience we had with mother nature.

We had our cheap but delicious lunch at Balong’s Ihaw-Ihaw at Lutong Bahay located near the town market.

Next destination – Hanging Bridge and Balete Tree
